Our Rental Policy
Payment
For stays of any length, the total charges are due at the time of booking. Payment can be made via Visa and MasterCard. We will send confirmation of your reservation upon receipt of your payment.
Cancellation Policy
For any reservation cancellation, we must receive 72 hours notice prior to your confirmed arrival in order to receive your deposit back less a $25 cancellation fee. If any cancellation is made within 72 hours of your stay, regardless of the reason, your deposit will be non-refundable (though you are always welcome to send a friend or family member in your place).
Any change-of-dates request (including shortening a reservation) must be made 72 hours prior to your confirmed arrival and is subject to availability and minimum stay restrictions. Within 72 hours prior to arrival, deposits are non-refundable and no changes can be made to the reservation. After check-in, a shortened stay will remain charged in full per the original reservation.
For group room blocks of four rooms or more, please refer to the group contract for the applicable cancellation policy.
Check-in/Check-out times
Check-in is available after 4 pm, and check-out is at 11 am. For late arrivals or special accommodations, please text a Guest Experience team member at 847-338-3798.
Check-In Minimum Age
Guests must be 21 years or older to check in at The American Hotel, unless prohibited by applicable laws.
Pets & Service Animals
While we love dogs, not all our guests feel the same way. For this reason, The American Hotel does not allow pets, however, we do work with local dog sitters. The fee is paid directly to the sitter and The American Hotel is not responsible for pet sitters. Please text a Guest Experience team member at 847-338-3798 for a list of dog sitters.
If unregistered dogs are discovered in rooms, a charge of $250.00 per night will be added to the guest's credit card on file.
Housekeeping
For guests staying with us longer than three nights, we will provide a full service housekeeping of your room after the third night of your stay. Should you be in need of anything specific during your stay, please text a Guest Experience team member at 847-338-3798.
Alcohol Policy
Whether or not we sell alcohol on the premises, guests must be 21 years of age or older to consume alcohol. As our common spaces are used by all guests, we ask everyone to drink responsibly and be considerate of others around them.
Non-Smoking Policy
The American Hotel is 100% smoke, vape, and flame-free. A $250 cleaning surcharge will be imposed on any room where guests have smoked (including e-cigarettes), or vaped in their room or anywhere on property.
Firearm Policy
We prioritize the safety and comfort of our guests and staff. To ensure everyone's well-being, we have a policy regarding firearms on our premises. We understand that guests may have valid reasons for possessing firearms, so our policy aims to balance safety and respect for legal rights. For the safety of all, we do not permit the open carry of firearms on our property, regardless of local laws.
While we respect the rights of guests who are legally allowed to have firearms, we require them to follow specific guidelines:
- Firearms must be securely stored in a locked, hard-sided container provided by the guest while on our property.
- When not in use, firearms should be safely stored in the guest's room or vehicle.
- Failure to comply may result in being asked to leave the hotel.

Guest Responsibility
While accidents do happen, guests will be financially responsible for damages due to gross negligence.
